Birthdays top the list of occasions to give gift cards, leading consumers to buy gift cards year-round, according to a survey commissioned by First Data Corp. From specialty and discount retailers to coffee shops and quick service restaurants, today's diverse gift card products continue to grow in popularity.

According to the 2007 U.S. Gift Card Consumer Insights Survey, gift cards continued to gain in popularity in 2007. Nine out of 10 (90 percent) American adults who responded to an online survey purchased or received a gift card in the previous 12 months and six out of 10 (60 percent) did both, according to the survey. This is a significant increase from the previous year's findings.

DALLAS, January 16, 2007 - Chase Paymentech, the leading processor of payment transactions on the internet, has finalized an analysis of results from its inaugural Pulse Index of online shopping activity, compiled during the 2006 holiday shopping season. The season is defined as the period starting on the Sunday immediately prior to Thanksgiving Day through to the first Monday of the New Year.

CISP compliance is required of all merchants and service providers that store, process, or transmit Visa cardholder data. The program applies to all payment channels, including retail (brick-and-mortar), mail/telephone order, and e-commerce. To achieve compliance with CISP, merchants and service providers must adhere to the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, which offers a single approach to safeguarding sensitive data for all card brands. This Standard is a result of a collaboration between Visa and MasterCard and is designed to create common industry security requirements, incorporating the CISP requirements. Other card companies operating in the U.S. have also endorsed the PCI Data Security Standard within their respective programs.

Using the PCI Data Security Standard as its framework, CISP provides the tools and measurements needed to protect against cardholder data exposure and compromise across the entire payment industry.
