It is extremely difficult to understand all the fees. Credit card fees are also an area that merchants can save or waste money and not even realize it.
I have been in my current position for five years now and one of my job duties is credit card processing. I have met with and spoken to many different sales people with many different companies. Each one claiming that they have the better rates and that their reports are easy to understand. Each one has also claimed that we were being “cheated” by our current processor. I always end up with a headache when I spend time and energy on trying to understand just how the process works.
The bottom line is that I gained on the job experience and knowledge. My company also received $3,644.64 in refunds! Wow! This amount was only for five months. Had Lori not been so diligent the error would not have been caught. Lori proved that she and her company, Versatalis, are a different kind of credit card processor. "We have just gone through a very bad experience with our current processor.  We tried to close and batch our payments and it failed.  We contacted the processor and they told us they no longer supported our terminal because it was only 256K and they now did 512K + machines.  We would have to buy a new machine at $600.00 or get software at $450.00 to continue processing with them. We are an Atrex user and I found Versatalis on an Atrex web page when I accidentally clicked on that page.  A few things to note regarding Versatalis and Atrex:

  1. Most important: Integration within Atrex via software for free.
  2. Free setup with them
  3. Half percent lower fees
  4. No Batch fees.
  5. Very friendly personal touch from Jake Miller. He took the time to answer all my questions and explain everything in detail. Missing most places now-a-days.

I am a long time Atrex user (6 Years). I love Atrex for my small retail store. Last week my computer totally crashed and burned. My old hard drive was able to be ghosted over to the new computer...but my old IC Verify credit card processor would not work with the new operating system. I called Jake at Versatalis and told him about my crisis. He was very quick to respond and really helped walk me through the set up of a new merchant account with his company. It usually is a 5 - 10 day turnaround on setting up new customers. He had us up and rolling in THREE DAYS. Wow!! He was a ray of light in a dark situation that really brightened my day.
